Riversymposium 2010
The 13th International Riversymposium took place from 11-14 October 2010 in Perth, Australia. The theme was ‘Moving Waters – the changing state of rivers'.  Read More

World Rivers Day 2010
World Rivers Day 2010 took place on September 25th across more than 30 countries involving millions of people.  Read More

The International Conference on the Status and Future of the World's Large Rivers will be held from April 11-14, 2011 in Vienna, Austria. Registration is available online.  Read More

FLOW 2011 – Instream Flow Valuation in Public Decision-Making - 2011
Back by popular demand, the Instream Flow Council, in partnership with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, is holding FLOW 2011 for May 2-4, 2011, in Nashville, Tennessee. Mark your calendars, and plan to be a part of advancing the integration of water management science, policy, and public dialogue. Abstracts for poster submissions are due January 31st.  Read More

East African Environmental Flows Network
The East Africa Environmental Flows Network has been launched to to provide a platform for knowledge sharing and exchange of information on environmental flows/ environmental water allocations in East Africa.  Read More

Ecological flows in North Carolina
The North Carolina Division of Water Resources (DWR) has launched a new web page dealing with Ecological Flows. It covers some basic background, has numerous links to additional information, describes the NC Hydrologic Stream Classification System, and outlines plans to develop an approach for determining the ecological flows needed for river basin modeling and planning.  Read More

New Eflows Assessment and Implementation Programme in Spain
The recent implementation of the Water Framework Directive in Spain and changes of hydrological planning national decrees have led to publication of new amendments to the Spanish Water Law. These have modified previous methodologies for the assessment and implementation of environmental flows in the Spanish national and international basins.  Read More

Environmental Flows for non-perennial rivers - suggestions needed
The University of the Free State, South Africa are involved in a Water Research Commission Project on EF for non-perennial rivers where they are trying to develop a method. Problems identified are that perennial methods do not work in non-perennial rivers due to highly variable flow and difficulty in predicting the presence of biota etc. Also no reference condition can be determined due to this unpredictability. Any suggestions or links to other projects of this sort will be appreciated.  Read More

The Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP) of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands are looking for information on studies on the water needs of non-riverine wetlands.  Read More

The Joint International Workshop: Spotlight on Bioenergy and Water examined the implications for water use and water quality of increasing biofuels use, uncertainties in estimating water consumption, and looked forward to techniques and technologies that can reduce water use in biofuel production.  Read More

The report presents a brief synopsis of environmental flow policies enacted to date, describes the three major challenges to implementing those policies, and offers nine guidelines for overcoming the obstacles and moving forward to full implementation.  Read More
